“Pour yourself a cup of ambition.”
£1 from every sale will go to The National Literacy Trust.
I had this idea for a mug charm and a nod to St Dolly for a long time, but simply hadn’t had time to get round to it.
Then we lost this blessed lady.
Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love Dolly. Yes a lot of her songs, but mostly just her.
There was something about her that just drew people to her. She spoke to people of all skin tones, all sexualities, all genders, all walks of life, and people loved her.
And she was real. It wasn't just platitudes. Growing up I think many women of my age didn't realise, what an actual feminist icon she was, it took us a while, but we realised, before it was too late.
She could have been a billionaire, but she wasn't, why, because she didn't just talk the talk, she walked the walk, in those little tottering heels. She gave away books, to increase literacy, she gave money to fund a COVID vaccine, she gave all the royalties she got from Whitney's version of 'I will always love you', to help support black communities in Nashville, and... And .. And
She accepted, she loved, and she spoke up. This woman, this little blonde wigged, rhinestone covered angel showed us what it was to be truly human and good. Be soft without being a pushover. To be strong without being impervious. To create yourself, but be truly you. Goodness this woman. When you get 'those' moments, you know the ones, remember, 'What would Dolly do?'
This mug charm is in tribute to Dolly.
It has the slogan, ‘Cup of Ambition’ hand-painted on the side.
The butterflies represent the symbol she always loved and the rainbow colours represent the coat of many colours and the unwavering support she gave to LGBTQI people.
On the bottom is the acronym WWDD. What would Dolly Do?
And the cup has tea/coffee, with added sparkle, to represent ambition and Dolly’s sparkle both in her outfits and in her personality.
I chose the National Literacy Trust as with her ‘Imagination Library’ , Dolly helped and encouraged so may with their literacy and I figured that they would be inundated with donations and so I chose the The National Literacy Trust. I’m sure Dolly wouldn’t mind.
Made from epoxy clay, these tiny mugs have been made from start to finish by myself. From wax model, to mould, to casting, to hand-painting.
Finished with resin paint and gloss vanish.
Charm only. Does not come with necklace or bracelet.
