Why do pieces cost so much more than the supermarkets, chain stores, low price websites?

Supermarkets, big chains, and cheap online stores, make items by machine, in bulk, with not always but often, cheap labour and low quality materials. They also have the finance to throw lots of money at these things.

This is a solo run site, each item is made to order by hand, by me. There are no other employees. Just me. That’s why it takes longer sometimes too.

There’s time and care put into each item. Sole traders in handmade items, need to cover materials, website/payment systems percentages, our electricity, and our TIME. In fact often these kind of traders, pay themselves minimum wage and don’t charge what should be the full price. (There’s actually a formula to what you should charge for your handmade products). We do understand that this means that some people cannot afford to buy pieces, but look out for discounts, request gifts, or a gift voucher. (I will be adding these at some point soon).

I hope this helps people to understand why people charge what they do for handmade products.
